Sixteen-year-old Gardner Elliot (Butterfield) is the first human born on Mars, living his whole life with a team of scientists on the red planet. He’s always longed to see Earth to find the father he’s never known and to meet a beautiful street smart girl named Tulsa (Robertson) he’s encountered friends with online. But when his chance finally comes, doctors discover his heart can’t withstand the Earth’s atmosphere. Eager to find his father, Gardner and Tulsa escape on a cross-country race against time to unravel the mysteries of how he came to be and where he belongs in the universe. See the heartfelt and inspiring romantic adventure about how far one person can go for love.
What’s your favorite thing about Earth? Is it the flowers that bloom in the spring, the rain that washes everything clean, the sun shining down on your face, or even the notion that nothing is impossible? For 16 year old Gardener, it was the notion of love, the impossible, and adventure. Gardener was born and grew up on Mars and longed to see Earth. He wanted to know where he came from, where he belonged, and to meet his father. Ultimately when that opportunity arose, he grabbed it and didn’t let go as he went on the adventure of his life. I loved the touch of future technology that was added into the movie as well.
This is such a romantic, heart felt story that will have you smiling, laughing, and crying all at the same time. I loved how open and brave Gardener was. He faced everything head on and went for what he wanted. Tulsa, his online friend, also plays a major role in the movie. She’s very relatable as her backstory is sad, but moving. I love her tough exterior, but she lets Gardener in and things just fall into place. It’s such a touching, inspiring story that will move you and have you reaching for the tissues!
