Six long years ago, Captain Reynolds Macy sailed away from his bride, looking forward to the day when he would return to Nantucket Island with a ship’s hold full of whale oil. But when that momentous day finally arrives, Ren soon discovers that everything has changed in his absence. Everything.
Unlike most islanders, bold and spirited Daphne Coffin doesn’t defer to Ren as an authoritative whalemaster, but sees through his aloofness to the aching heart beneath. She encourages him to return to his Quaker roots and “mind the Light,” finding solace in God and community. As Ren becomes the man she believes him to be–honorable, wise, faithful–she finds herself falling in love with him.
But how can she, when her heart is spoken for?
This is book 2 in the Nantucket legacy series. I haven’t yet read book 1, but I felt like this book did a great job at standing on its own. I didn’t feel lost at any point nor did I feel like I was missing chunks of information from the previous read. Fisher did an amazing job at drawing readers in with fun, clean romance. I felt invested as I flipped through each page. It offered a steady pace and was well written. I love that the story is divided among two time periods so that you can truly see the effects and changes. This can be a tricky thing to accomplish because you can lose readers, but Fisher did a great job at making the changes seamless. It offered some twists and turns paired with cheer worthy characters. I definitely plan to read more from Fisher!
