June Book Cover

“Twenty-five-year-old Cassie Danvers is holed up in her family’s crumbling mansion in rural St. Jude, Ohio, mourning the loss of the woman who raised her—her grandmother, June. But a knock on the door forces her out of isolation. Cassie has been named the sole heir to legendary matinee idol Jack Montgomery’s vast fortune. How did Jack Montgomery know her name? Could he have crossed paths with her grandmother all those years ago? What other shocking secrets could June’s once-stately mansion hold?

Soon Jack’s famous daughters come knocking, determined to wrestle Cassie away from the inheritance they feel is their due. Together, they all come to discover the true reasons for June’s silence about that long-ago summer, when Hollywood came to town, and June and Jack’s lives were forever altered by murder, blackmail, and betrayal. As this page-turner shifts deftly between the past and present, Cassie and her guests will be forced to reexamine their legacies, their definition of family, and what it truly means to love someone, steadfastly, across the ages.”

My Thoughts!

Generally, I’ve never cared much for books that jump from one time period to another. I find it’s easy to get lost and confused. However, Miranda Beverly- Whittemore did an amazing job and keeping her readers attention and making this story easy to follow.  I will say that it took me a little while to really get into the book and felt the beginning was slow, but it wasn’t long before I was flipping from one page to another. It didn’t take long and I was flying through the pages learning all of grandma June’s secrets!

Cassie Danvers grandmother passes away, leaving Cassie feeling alone as she deals with the death of her last family member as she knew it.  She holds up in her grandmother’s old family mansion as she mourns her loss when a knock at the door changes everything she’s ever known.  The gentleman at the door informs her that she has inherited a fortune from an actor by the name of Jack Montgomery.

You see, Jack’s will states that Cassie is his granddaughter, but she never knew of him and his children aren’t easy to let go of his fortune- especially not to Cassie.  Cassie finds herself digging into her grandmother’s past to find family secrets that have been hidden for years.
Overall, I found it to be a steady read with a really juicy and detailed story. The characters had detail and were well thought out. This is definitely a must read!
