I’ll never forget the day I met my hubby. I never would have imagined that it would change my life forever.  It’s kinda funny to think about it… He kinda met me before I met him. Let him tell it, I ignored him- but that’s a story for another day. You see, we worked at a call center together and he was even on my team- but I didn’t even know it. One day, I got a message on social media. I wasn’t familiar with the mystery guy in the picture, but we had a mutual friend so being the curious person that I am, I had to find out who the mystery guy behind the message was. The next day at work, I had our mutual friend point him out. Next thing I knew we were sitting by each other daily, competing in work stats, and dating.  It didn’t take long before we moved in together and 10 years later we have a beautiful family and lots of memories.

It’s not always easy though. We have different likes and dislikes, different hobbies, different parenting styles, and more.  Our lives get hectic and schedules don’t always match up. We always make it work though and find time to spend with each other.  Here’s 5 ways that we keep the love alive:

Date Nights: Yes, fancy and over the top date nights make me feel special. That’s not always possible though and honestly it’s the smaller intimate date nights that bring us closer.  Dinner and a movie, a walk in the park, adventuring downtown, and even going for ice cream. Dates don’t have to be expensive.  You could even pack a picnic and have lunch in the park. It’s all about spending quality time with each other.

Try New Things: We are both  quite adventurous and love to try new things. Whether it’s a new TV series, a new restaurant, a new recipe, a new book series, or a new travel location. It’s not about what we are doing, but rather who we are doing it with. I have experienced a ton of firsts thanks to my husband. Recently, we tried gator together at this gorgeous new restaurant down town. We also tried a few new recipes, and found a new TV show that we are both hooked on.  Think outside the box, try a painting class together, go hiking or camping together, take a road trip to a new place, go on a cruise, etc. Low on funds? Try a new board game or go sight seeing. The options are endless.

Teamwork: We rely heavily on teamwork and communication. We both work full time jobs and our lives can get busy. We stay in touch at all times to ensure that the kids are picked up from school, errands are done, bills are paid, and things are running smoothly.  We also work well together when it comes to laundry, cooking, and doing homework with the kiddos. Sometimes we both tackle it to get things done quickly, sometimes we split responsibilities, and sometimes we give each other the night off.

Quality Time: This is another big one for us.  It can be hard to find time to spend together, especially around the holidays when things are so crazy and busy. We  try to always take at least an hour each night to talk about our days, watch TV, read together, etc. We also try to fit in board games, family nights, and family dinners on a weekly basis as well.

Personal Time: It sounds funny, but taking time for ourselves helps us grow together. Not only does it help keep the peace, but it also allows us the opportunity to  explore our thoughts, relax after a long day, and just enjoy down time.  For me this often means a peaceful shower without interruptions from the kids or pets. Sometimes it also means a 30 minute show that I’ve been dying to watch.  For my hubby it’s winding down time on the game with the guys. Giving each other personal space helps us grow as individuals and as a married couple.

Speaking of ways to keep your love alive, Forever My Girl is set to release next month and I can’t wait to see it! This is going to be a great date night movie!

Forever My Girl tells the story of music super-star Liam Page (Alex Roe) who left his bride, Josie (Jessica Rothe), at the altar choosing fame and fortune instead. However, Liam never got over Josie, his one true love, nor did he ever forget his Southern roots in the small community where he was born and raised. When he unexpectedly returns to his hometown for the funeral of his high school best friend, Liam is suddenly faced with the consequences of all that he left behind.  Forever My Girl is an uplifting romantic film about second chances.  It releases in theaters on January 19.
